About

1. Background

I retired from full time work for Toyota in the middle of 2019. Toyota is a fantastic employer, and I continue to work with them now I have my own company - Applied Jidoka Ltd. In total, I have more than 35 years experience in manufacturing, mostly in Automotive at OEM and tier 1 level. My work now takes me into other fields.

2. Hobbies

2.1. Mold Town Concert Band

I play the clarinet in the Mold Town Concert Band. I am also currently the Band Secretary - a role I enjoy. As well as coordinating much of the paperwork for the band, I also maintain the website linked above.

2.2. Home Automation

I set up a server in 2023, bringing my NextCloud installation on site. I am still have much to learn about self hosting, but I like the challenges presented. I have now bought a Dell Wyse 5070, and will be using this (hopefully) with Guix, and running it as a server with Incus and Home Assistant.

2.3. Model Aircraft

Mainly gliders, but also electric power and quadcopters.

2.4. Software development

Learning a wide range of different languages for fun! Over the last years: clojure, lisp (common lisp and emacslisp), haskell, elm and now rust. Planning to write flight controller software for model aircraft in rust :)

2.5. Amateur Radio

Licenced in 2021 during lockdown at foundation level (in the UK). I like QRP, and have been learning morse code on and off. I need to double down and do it properly instead of dabbling…!

2.6. Kayaking and Cycling

Good to keep some level of fitness and flexibility!
